Research in Archives and Information Science at Mid Sweden University is based on the theoretical framework of the records continuum model. According to the records continuum model, records are always in the state of being created, i.e. an iterative process that continues throughout the life of the record (McKemmish 2001). The records continuum model presents an overview of a seamless and dynamic recordkeeping regime that transcends time and space to capture and manage records for as long as they are required to satisfy business, regulatory, social and cultural requirements, which implies a proactive approach for managing electronic records in all kinds of organisations. This approach is rather unique within archival science, only adopted by a few research groups in the world, e.g. the REGIM-group at Tampere university and the Records Continuum Research Group at Monash University in Australia. The focus of the research projects at the Mid Sweden University are recordkeeping in current administrations, and the recordkeeping processes are considered as vital parts of organizations business processes. This render inter-disciplinary cooperation with Information Systems research, organizational studies, law and political science natural.
