Internationalisation is an integrated part within MKV as the needs of both education and research determine international relations operations at the department.

The department which was founded in 1990 aims to carry out research in communication and journalism as well as teaching communication science at Bachelor and graduate levels. A variety of optional courses are offered in the field of Science of Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Photography and Graphic Design. The department also runs five degree programme: the Public relations Bachelor's Degree Programme, Webdesign, Photojournalism,  Graphic Design and Communication, and two Programmes in Journalism (one post graduate). The department of Media and Communication has 35 members of staff and approximately 700 students are enrolled on courses.

Every spring semester we offer a number of courses held in english. Most of the students comes from the Erasmus exchange programme. You can read about some of the courses to the right on this page.

For further information contact the International Coordinator Cathrine Gladh who provides the department with coordination and support for a wide variety of developmental international activities. Kevin Gater is the co-ordinator for MKV. These activities include information and consulting on student exchange, lecturer exchange, administrative staff exchange, research co-operations, administration of international agreements, coordination of services for visiting international scholars and delegations.

Examples of courses
given in english

Comparative Media Systems

The course provides a general introduction to normative media theories and media systems in different parts of the world. 

Research Paper in
Communication Studies

The project consists of an academic essay on a topic related to media and communication. Students write a research paper (approx. 20 pages) on a topic approved by the instructor that represents an undergraduate level term paper, including litterature references, theoretical discussion, empirical overview and analysis.

Narrative forms in media

This course is aimed to introduce students to the ground fundamentals of storytelling through mediated devices. Drawing on examples from filmic, televised and other common narrative mediums the course will focus on and illustrate the various storytelling elements that are involved.

Graphic Design

The aim of the course is to introduce the tools used in the area of layout within information and communication work and fundamental knowledge in imaging with the aid of relevant imaging software. The course results in an individually produced printed matter.

Magazine project 

The course shall provide an introduction to journalistic writing in English as well as an insight into magazine publication and content. Based on this knowledge, and the students skills in basic graphic design and layout learnt in prior modules, the students will create their own magazine.
