Fil dr Jorge Calbucura har sitt fokus riktat på forskningsprojektet Från invandrare till medborgare. Delaktighet och jämlikhet för invandrare med funktionshinder.
I centrum för intresset står mötet mellan invandrare med funktionshinder och det svenska socialpolitiska systemet vad gäller välfärdens fördelning och förändring. Calbucura kombinerar studier som knyter samman trådar från handikappforskning, internationell migration och etniska relationer.

He is currently working as senior lecturer of social work at the department of social work at the Mid Sweden University. He has previously worked with teaching and research at the department of sociology, Uppsala University.
His research is mainly concerned with:§ Political Sociology: Globalisation, global migration, racism, ethnicity, social movements.§ Historical Sociology: social memory and historical consciousness, indigenous highland South America, Mapuche. § Sociology of indigenous people: Decolonising indigenous rights, Decolonizing Methodologies ; Postcolonialism, Postoccidentalism and Indigenous Peoples; discourses and practices of power, identity and politics, transnationalism and global culture.
