The government has established eight so-called innovation offices in Sweden located at chosen universities and universities.
Mid Sweden University has, together with Karlstad University, Linnaeus University and Örebro University, been granted 5 Million SEK per year to run a joint innovation office called Fyrklövern. The aim of the innovation office is to stimulate and support utilization and commercialization of research results from all Swedish universities and university colleges.
To encourage business ideas
At Mid Sweden University, the innovation office is run within the framework of MIUN Innovation. Mid Sweden University is head of the innovation office Fyrklövern, which is led by Eva Rosén, MIUN Innovation.
The purpose of Fyrklövern is service innovations to encourage business ideas and to commercialize research. The following areas are prioritized: Forests as a resource, Lifestyle, health and adventure as well as Industrial technology and production systems.
A requieredkick-start
50 Million SEK are to be handed out to the eight innovation offices in Sweden and in the long run, this means a lot of money. The other universities receiving means for the innovation offices are Uppsala University, Lund University, Umeå University, Linköping University, Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Chalmers University of Technology.
During the autumn of 2008, the build-up of an internal innovation-supporting activity was initiated. To get a kick-start, the university chose to apply for funds from the EU Structural Funds,
Objective 2.
The project was approved and this way, MIUN Innovation could start its activities during the spring of 2009. During the first period, focus was on finding the right team and finding a suitable office. Cooperation agreements with Åkroken Science Park and Business Incubator in Jämtland were concluded and working methods were developed together with these partners.
