Bo Svensson, Assoc.Professor

I have a PhD in political science from Umeå University. Before taking up the position by ETOUR, my employments have been by Umeå University, the Swedish Regional Research Institute (SIR), and the Swedish Institute for Growth Policy Studies (ITPS). During September 2001- June 2002, I occupied a Jean Monnet Fellowship for post-doctoral research by the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Other professional experiences include evaluation of regional and industrial policy for the Swedish Government (Ministry of Industry) and the EU Structural Funds, and project leadership by the County Administration Board of Jämtland concerning venture capital and framework conditions for business development. Bo was the director of ETOUR between 2002-2012. 

Research interests

My research has been focused on the relationship between politics and business as obvious in the fields of industrial policy, regional development and foreign policy. I have published articles and chapters in international publications within the field of 'politics and business'.

Tourism has not been a research interest before arriving at ETOUR. However, since tourism in many respects is a rather political business, my research background is a good starting point for carrying out research into tourism policy and politics.
