About the programme

This research preparatory programme is aimed at students who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills in planning and conducting research projects. As a student, you will plan and conduct a larger, coherent project together with senior researchers.

The programme has three specializations – Tourism, Sport Sciences and Social Work. The specialization Social Work is only available/taught in Swedish.

Our research in the field of tourism focuses on nature-based tourism, information technology and tourism, destinations as well as the economic, political and spatial dynamics of tourism. Our research in the field of sport sciences focuses on three areas: training and performance within competitive sports, environmental physiology and physical activity and health. Our research in in social work focuses on the professional field of social work, human rights issues, social justice, and the global challenges of social work. The specialization social work is only available/taught in Swedish. For questions regarding this specialization please contact Department of Psychology and Social Work PSOexp@miun.se

You will work independently and focused in a project you choose, together with your supervisor, in one of the research fields of the Department of Economics, Geography, Law and Tourism, Department of Health Sciences or the Department of Psychology and Social Work. The programme consists of second cycle courses as well as an extensive individual degree work that ends with a written and oral presentation of your project.

The structure of the teaching

The students are expected to conduct their studies full-time at the department. Part of the work may be conducted outside of the campus, i.e for fieldwork or data collection.

Entry requirements

English course 6/English from Swedish upper secondary school or equivalent.

Eligibility requirements specific to the specialisation:

Sports Sciences: Bachelor’s degree of at least 180 credits in sports sciences, physiology, medicine, biology or equivalent, including 15 credits independent project (degree project)

Social Work: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work of at least 180 credits, including 15 credits independent project (degree project)

Tourism Studies: Bachelor’s degree of at least 180 credits in Tourism Studies, Human Geography or other subject in the social sciences field, including 15 credits independent project (degree project)

Applicants competence in relation to the chosen subject area, scientific quality and analytical ability. This eligibility requirement is assessed based on:

  1. Personal letter containing: a) brief description of the chosen project (ie. which research topic / research project the applicant is interested in) b) motivate the interest in the chosen project c) describe qualifications / experiences relevant to the project / research topic

  2. Previous independent written work

  3. Interview

Selection

Personal letter and previous independent work must be uploaded with your application at antagning.se / universityadmissions.se

In the selection of applicants, great emphasis is put on competence in relation to the chosen subject area, scientific quality, analytical ability, ability to work independently and in groups and ability to express themselves in writing in English. The selection is based on an aggregation of scientific quality on previous independent work, personal letter and interview.
