Emotion is an important field of psychology, because emotions constantly affect us in everyday life, for example, in interactions with others, or in decision making. Emotions also influence a range of other psychological processes (e.g. attention, memory, motivation). Above all, emotions are important factors for well-being, both psychological as well as physical.
The program will provide you with a solid theoretical foundation and scientific training, aiming to shape analytical and systematic thinking, as well as the ability to evaluate and contribute to the research field.

About the programme

The Master’s program will give you a comprehensive understanding of emotion psychology as a discipline and research field. The courses included in the Master’s program are broad and grounded in ongoing research and clinical expertise.

This is a full-time study program, lasting a total of 2 years. The program covers different subareas of the field of emotion psychology. It also contains three methodology courses, one in statistics and research design, one covering general knowledge about research methods in emotion psychology, as well as one covering advanced knowledge within research methods and statistics. Taken together, the courses of the different subareas are laying the foundation for the Master´s thesis.

The application to the program entails full-time studies, consisting of 120 credits. Four courses consisting of 7.5 credits each are to be completed each semester.

For students aiming to achieve a one-year Degree of Master of Science (60 credits), two of the courses of semester 2 will be replaced by a Thesis (15 credits).

The courses of the program will be offered in English.

The structure of the teaching

The program includes two mandatory meetings (each meeting lasting for three days) per year taking place at Campus Östersund (one in March and one in November). The remaining teaching is provided by distance, including mandatory online meetings for all of the courses.

Please note that attendance at campus meetings is mandatory and cannot be replaced by written or oral supplementation.

Furthermore, there are mandatory web-seminars for which the students will need a headset, a webcam and a well-functioning internet connection.

Entry requirements

A bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits (ECTS) with a major in psychology. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits (ECTS) with a different major and 60 credits in psychology. English course 6/English course B from Swedish Upper Secondary School (Gymnasium) or the equivalent. General entry requirements
