Computer science
Today, computer systems are everywhere in our society, something that we can benefit from in many different areas. By learning how they are structured and how they are developed, programmed and communicate with each other, you will be equipped to work in the IT industry.
You will also gain an understanding of the connection between hardware and software, as well as computer systems and the design of IT systems in a broad sense.
Developments in the digital society are creating ever higher expectations for faster and constant connectivity. We want to be able to send and receive high-quality audio, images and video, and companies are pushing to meet these demands. They need to always be one step ahead and develop new and updated software and systems. In the subject of Computer Science and Engineering, you will learn how.
The focus is on programming, network communication, problem solving and creating efficient and simple programs. Common to all courses is that the combination of software with hardware is central. This makes you equipped to work with systems that are all around our everyday lives, from intranets and servers to personal computers and mobile phones.
For example, you will learn how modern operating systems work, how distributed systems are built and communicate, and principles for storing information in database systems. You will also learn all the steps involved in creating programs, from establishing a user requirement specification to the final result. Other courses are focused on development in the popular areas of web and mobile applications.
Courses in computer science are given both at a distance and with Sundsvall as the place of study. Some courses, at all levels, may be given in English.
In-depth studies are linked to current research at Mid Sweden University, such as computer networks, distributed systems, mobile services, multimedia services, video encoding, decision-making systems, machine learning and human-computer interaction.
