Research project on Economic Valuation of Outdoor Recreation and access to nature receives fundings from STF
CER researcher Soleiman Limaei has reacently been granted funding from the Swedish Tourist Association's (STF) scholarship fund for scientific investigations to conduct a study on how people value access to nature and outdoor life at the Stornäset nature reserve on Alnö (Sundsvall).
How much do people value access to nature and outdoor life? This is one of the questions that is in focus in the research project Economic valuation of outdoor recreation and access to nature – Alnö Stornäset.
The project examines how visitors and residents value nature experiences, environmental quality and nature conservation efforts in the Stornäset nature reserve on Alnö. The study is carried out in the field of environmental economics, outdoor recreation and nature valuation and uses the scenario-based Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) to analyze people's willingness to pay and support for various measures that strengthen nature and environmental protection.
With the project, Soleiman Limaei also wants to understand how people's values linked to the environment and nature are formed, and how these can be translated into knowledge that supports decisions on the management of protected natural areas.
— By combining economic analysis methods with behavioural science perspectives, I hope that the project can contribute to more reliable assessments of public preferences in environmental policy contexts, he says and continues:
— The aim is to create a better knowledge base for the sustainable management of natural resources and nature-based tourism, where public values can be integrated into future environmental assessments and decision-making processes.
