Mutual learning during internship at Grant Thornton
Economics students Melika Salehi Movahed and Nathalie Nykvist have just finished their 5-week internship at Grant Thornton (GT). As third-year students in accounting and finance, they have had the opportunity to try out both accounting and auditing, where they have worked in actual customer assignments.
During the internship, which was carried out within the framework of the CER network, Melika and Nathalie have had to handle both supplier invoices, as well as ongoing bookkeeping and work with various elements of the review process. The students' supervisor Malin Eriksson, who works as a senior consultant accounting at the office in Sundsvall, says that during their time with them at GT, the interns have also gained insights into other business areas, such as corporate services, tax law and sales.
"We have really appreciated Melika and Nathalie's commitment, drive and curiosity. They have asked many questions, which has shown a genuine interest and a strong desire to understand, while at the same time helping us to reflect on and develop our ways of working. Their practical participation, combined with the perspectives they have provided, has created a clear mutual value.
Malin explains that at GT they think it is valuable to receive interns:
"The internship gives students the opportunity to put theory into practice and get a realistic picture of the industry, professional roles and future career choices. For us, it also means an opportunity to build relationships early on and show who we are as an employer with in our way of working, our culture and our development opportunities," she says and continues:
"Our ambition is for the students to leave us with a clearer picture of the industry, a strengthened self-confidence and, above all, feel inspired for the next step.
