The Economic Research Foundation in Sundsvall awards millions to CER

After more than 14 years, the Economic Research Foundation in Sundsvall is now being wound down. In connection with this, the foundation is making a contribution of just over one million SEK to CER.

On Monday evening, October 28, the last board meeting was held at Hotel Baltic in Sundsvall. On site were representatives of the financiers Länsförsäkringar Västernorrland, the then real estate company Norrporten (now Castellum), Handelsbanken and the then Öhrlings PricewaterhouseCoopers (now PwC).

The Foundation's Chairman, Gerhard Larsson, stated that the Foundation was established in 2009 with the purpose to "through financial grants to promote non-profit scientific research on economic relations and financial services in the banking, insurance, pension, auditing and real estate industries and related areas in the business and public sectors. Research that affects the Sundsvall region is given special attention."

Over the years, the foundation has, through scholarships and special initiatives, contributed around SEK 2 million to CER and the CER network to strengthening economic research at Mid Sweden University. As the foundation is now being wound down, the remaining funds will go primarily to developing the area "Digital Banking and Finance". The funds are to be used to i) equip an assembly hall with good technical equipment and appropriate databases bearing the name of the Foundation for Economic Research, ii) organise a conference with international researchers in the specified field and link the conference to a special issue in an international journal and iii) award research and publication scholarships in accordance with the Foundation's intentions to relevant parties for a further three years. special research efforts within the foundation's areas of interest.
