The French case is particularly relevant for testing the relevance over time of the second order elections' model, the challenges to representative democracy and elites' responses and the relevance of the progressives vs. nationalists cleavage in explaining EU citizens' voting behaviour.
What’s most important with this year’s European election?
We think that the assessment of the relevance of the progressive vs nationalists (or winners/losers of globalization) cleavage in the election is crucial for understanding how effectively European elites have addressed citizens' request for democratic reforms.
