STC researchers Mattias O'Nils and Najeem Lawal have received funding of two million SEK from Vinnova. To money are going to be used over two years time to commercialize a failure detector, developed in close collaboration with the company Bosch Rexroth.
- The money goes to verify technology and commercialization of the failure detector that we have developed, said Professor Mattias O'Nils.
Mattias O'Nils and Najeem Lawal are the researchers behind the failure detector that uses a camera to identify and classify metal particles in oil hydraulic system. By analyzing the metal particles there is possible to determine if the hydraulic system is close to a breakdown and it can be serviced at the right time and save both time and money.
- Large hydraulic motors are used in various industries; it can be anything from the process industry to large vessels or offshore wind turbines. Maintenance is costly and time consuming and a major engine failure could be a disaster. Thereby a failure detector could make a big difference, says Mattias.
Today a prototype of the failure detector has been tested in an evaluation system developed together with the company Bosch Rexroth, a global leader in mobile hydraulics. Thanks to the two million SEK from Vinnova the researchers can take the next step and examine how the prototype will be designed into a product to fit the industrial environment. They will also examine more commercial parts like how the product should be sold and what kind of customer base there is.
- The failure detector can give our partner Bosch Rexroth great value to its customers by offering a possibility to avoid future machine breakdowns, says Mattias O'Nils.
