Aamir Mahmood

What is your background?

I received my Bachelor degree in Electrical engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, in 2002. I received my Master Degree and PhD in Communications engineering from Aalto University, Finland, in 2008 and 2010 respectively. I also worked at Nokia Research Center, Finland, from September 2013 to March 2014. I was a Visiting Researcher at the department of communications and networking, Aalto University, from September 2015 to June 2016.

What is your area of interest?

My research interests include ad hoc and sensor networks, wireless protocol design and analysis, and coexistence management.

What is it that you are going to investigate as a postdoc?

The industrial monitoring and control applications demand resilient communication solutions for their reliable and safe operation. On one hand, the industrial applications have stringent communication reliability and delay constraints, and on the other hand the industrial environment poses challenging wireless propagation conditions. In this respect, I will investigate the channel quality metrics that can enable the wireless sensor systems to adapt under the dynamics of the industrial environment as well as to cope with the interference from the coexisting wireless systems.

Why did you choose Mid Sweden University?

The research profile of IKS (information and communication systems), its active and strong collaboration with the industry, and its favorable environment for conducting application-oriented research are the main factors that motivated me to join Mid Sweden University.
