What is your area of interest?

Camera vision and analysis for modeling and recognition individual human features.

What is it that you are going to investigate in your Ph.D?

I´m going to investigate how we can recognize humans though a computed vision and image processing. The project describes a method to guide a wheelchair using a vision camera and image signal processing. The scientific goal is to reach the possibility that a wheelchair can recognize and follow the care giver walking besides with a preset angle and distance. This possibility can allow a more natural communication between the care giver and care taker sitting in the chair. The human recognition and tracking must be made as based 3D object recognition and camera pose estimation.

Why did you choose Sweden and Mid Sweden University?

Before I accepted the Ph.D position, I have been working in the automotive area as electronic engineer. I worked with some of the new safety systems that currently are used in many cars to avoid accidents trough computed vision. I was really motivated to learn and investigate more about computed vision and image processing because can be very useful in the future to allow a better environment sensing and to give new capabilities in many other areas like autonomous vehicles or computed-human interaction. Mid Sweden University gives me the opportunity to work in this project based in computed vision and image processing. STC and Mid Sweden University have an excellent environment, work conditions and facilities that allows to be in the cutting-edge of the technology and research.

As Spanish, live and work in Sundsvall, is itself exciting. I hope to learn new capabilities, experiences and of course cross-country ski!
