Next generation measurement systems

Climate changes affects the whole world, and as a consequence, the need to measure different environmental parameters increases. For example, by measuring water levels, CO2 levels, temperature and radiation as well as combining these different measurement values in real-time analysis, new opportunities opens to prevent, affect and correct problems in time.

At STC Research Centre we develope the Next Generation Measurement Systems. In cooperation with the partner company Combitech, STC developed a new measurement method that faster can predict the risk of icing on the rotor blades on wind turbines. Using a new camera technique that measures the size of water droplets in fog, the measurement system can predict the risk of icing more quickly. This means that actions can be taken in time to avoid long downtime for de-icing. The result will be a safer and more efficient production of electricity from wind power plants.

Predicts Icing

To meet industry and society's need for new measurement technology STC conduct research for the regional industries so that they can go from offline measurement to online measurement, thus streamlining production and creating resource-efficient end products with higher quality.

Key success factors are the close cooperation with industry and the combination of researchers' various skills. Wide competence in measurement systems with pixel sensors sensitive to energy levels from long-wave IR to X-ray is another example on success factors where data visualization is also included as an important part.
