First steps toward a smarter region
STC will along with 25 different companies and regional do research and develop new business within Internet of Things (IoT) for the industry and smart communities in the new research project SMART. Now the first steps toward a smarter region has begun.
At the 28th of September the first meeting with the project reference group, consisting of companies within the project, was held. During the meeting, the companies got an insight into what the project aims to achieve. The project will focus on research challenges in Internet of Things within the industry and smart society. The goal is to create conditions for the region's businesses to increase their competitiveness and create new services in the area.
- The potential of the Internet of Things is just as great as it has been for the Internet itself, which means that there is a Google and a Facebook around the corner waiting to be created. It would be fun if it happens in our region, says Mattias O'Nils, professor at Mid Sweden University and project leader of SMART.
And to create creative solutions for the Internet of Things was also the theme for a workshop during the day. The companies had to identify a problem or an issue and then try to come up with a solution within the area of IoT. There was also a workshop in evaluation and communication. Next reference group meeting will be held in January 2017.
SMART project extends over three years and has received investment of 63 million SEK funded by European Regional Development Fund, Knowledge Foundation and Länsstyrelsen Västernorrland.
