Meet Tra Phan - our new PhD-student at STC Research Center. She will work with energy harvesting and circuit design for wireless sensor networks within the new research profile NIIT - Next generation Industrial IoT.

Tra Phan

Can you tell a little about your background?

I received my bachelor degree in Electronics & Telecommunications at Ho Chi Minh University of Technology in 2012. After that I have worked as a Manufacturing Operation Supervisor at Intel Product Vietnam for 1 year. Then I got a scholarship from Norwegian government to study 2-year master program in Micro and Nano systems Technology at Buskerud and Vestfold University. My master thesis focuses on circuit interface for electrostatic energy harvester. After obtaining Master degree I spent one year at Texas Tech University as a PhD student working in biomedical signal processing research group. Then I came back Vietnam and worked as an Embedded system Engineering. After working for more than 1 year, I found myself still interested in academic career path. Then I applied for a PhD position at Mid Sweden University.

What is your area of interest?

I am interested in energy harvesting and circuit design for wireless sensor networks.

What is it that you are going to investigate at STC?

I will focus on electromagnetic energy harvester which harvests electrical energy to supply for wireless sensors. The first step is focusing on simulation the electromagnetic energy harvester using COMSOL Multiphysics.

Why did you choose Mid Sweden University?

I used to go to Sweden when studying my master and I really enjoy this country. Then I found a PhD position at Mid Sweden University, which is much closed to my research interest. That is why I come here and I am very happy for my choice.

How do you like it here so far?

Sweden is such a beautiful country especially for those who loves travelling like me. Thanks to support from my supervisor and my colleague I can quickly adapt to new environment and feel very peaceful and comfortable.

What do you do in your spare time?

I often ride my bike around the town to enjoy the fresh atmosphere and wonderful scene. When being at home, I like cooking for my family while listening to music.
