Uplifting Start for Remote Timber
February 4, was the start-up meeting for the research project Remote Timber hosted by the project partner Volvo Construction Equipments in Eskilstuna.
Representatives from all of the project's partners gathered in Eskilstuna when Volvo Construction Equipments hosted the meeting. During the day, the project participants got to see one of Volvo's timber loaders to experience the challenges when converting the machine to remote control. The participants also got to see, and test to remotely control a connected excavator on Volvo's test area.
During the day, a workshop was conducted on the various challenges of the project, which, in addition to rebuilding the timber loader with camera technology, is to develop a robust communication solution and handle issues related to the legislation of driverless vehicles.
The next step in the project is to select and evaluate a testsite where the tests with a remote controlled vehicle will be performed.
