August 1-3, 2022, the international research conference Sensors Applications Symposium – IEEE SAS 2022, was arranged in Sundsvall. After two years of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the conference was, for the first time ever, arranged as a hybrid event. Half of the participants, around 40 researchers, participated on site in Sundsvall and the other half participated online.

Associate Professor Sebastian Bader from the STC Research Centre at Mid Sweden University is the General Chair in the conference’s organizing committee and responsible for the program and arrangements on site.

- Everything has worked out very well and we are happy to be able to receive the participants and to meet in person again. It will be three full days with invited keynote speakers from both industry and academia, two special sessions, as well as technical presentations and poster sessions, says Sebastian.

Professor Bruno Ando, chairman of the steering committee of the Sensors Applications Symposium, is happy to finally be able to meet again in Sundsvall.

- After two years with online conferences, we in the steering committee are glad to be able to arrange the conference here in Sundsvall since the research focus at STC Research Center aligns perfectly with the focus of the conference - sensors and their applications, Professor Ando explains.

During the conference more than 60 researchers present their latest research results in sensor and sensor system development, covering application areas within several different fields; from biomedical to smart agriculture and industrial automation, just to mention a few.

- This is a relatively narrow research area and cutting-edge research is presented at this conference. It is especially nice to see so many young researchers attending the conference and that the participants show great interest and commitment, Prof. Aldo summarizes.
