What is your background?

My background is in Physics in general. I studied atomic physics for my bachelor’s degree. I became interested in optics and continued in the field of Photonics for a master’s degree at the Iran University of Science and Technology. My main research focus has been on Synchrotron accelerator physics, X-ray optics, and biomedical image processing.

How come you chose Mid Sweden University?

I am doing a double degree at the Mid Sweden University and the University of Saskatchewan. This is a valuable experience for me to be in this program and be able to broaden my research application and my experience in both institutes. I chose MIUN because of its strong collaboration with other institutes and the facilities it provides, especially the in-house X-ray lab.

What is going to be your focus during your PhD studies?

I knew that for my PhD I would want to link my optics and synchrotron knowledge background to health-related research. This passion and being in the COVID-19 pandemic (which attacks the lung mostly) led to my PhD project which focuses on studying lung inflammation by finding a crossover between assessing clinical histology and predicting imaging contrast in lung tissues.  Doing research in MIUN will help me to broaden x-ray imaging applications not only on the lung but also on paper pulp and paper research imaging.

How has your time in Sundsvall been so far?

My time in Sundsvall as a PhD student at MIUN, has been a fantastic experience so far. The atmosphere here is both welcoming and inspiring, with a perfect balance between academic challenge and personal growth. I’ve particularly enjoyed the university's facilities, including the in-house X-ray lab. The city itself, surrounded by beautiful nature, provides a peaceful environment that complements the dynamic research community at the university. The first thing I noticed and loved about the city was how green and lush everything was, with nature surrounding me at every turn.
