AI and 6G in Focus ‑ IEEE Fellow Prof. Coleri visits Mid Sweden University
Between May 13-16, Professor Sinem Coleri from Koç University in Turkey visited Mid Sweden University and STC Research Centre. Prof. Coleri, an IEEE Fellow and a leading expert in AI-based wireless network design, is at the forefront of shaping the future of wireless communications.
This visit was the next step in an ongoing collaboration that began a year ago when Dr. Fateme Salehi, Postdoc at Mid Sweden University, visited Prof. Coleri and her team at the Wireless Networks Laboratory (WNL) at Koc University. That initial connection led to a joint conference paper titled "Ultra-High Reliability by Predictive Interference Management Using Extreme Value Theory," which has been accepted for presentation at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC'25) in Montreal, June 8–12, 2025. The paper was co-authored by Dr. Fateme Salehi, Dr. Aamir Mahmood, Prof. Sinem Coleri and Prof. Mikael Gidlund.
Prof. Coleri’s visit to Mid Sweden University marks a key step in expanding this collaboration.
- I've been working on Extreme Value Theory for ultra-reliable communications, and Mikael’s research team applied this concept to interference management in wireless networks. That’s what our paper focuses on, and now we’re planning to extend this collaboration further, Prof. Coleri explained.
During her visit, Prof. Coleri received an in-depth introduction to the STC Research Centre, toured the labs, and engaged with PostDocs and PhD students who presented their research. She also held discussions with professors about ongoing projects and future collaboration opportunities.

A highlight of the visit was Prof. Coleri’s invited talk on strategies to ensure reliability and interpretability in AI-powered 6G networks. Her presentation covered key topics such as ultra-reliable communications, generative AI for channel modeling and safe AI-based radio resource management.
- I really enjoyed the visit, it’s a charming town with very interesting research going on, said Prof. Coleri. We’re now planning to deepen our collaboration with more joint publications and research exchange opportunities for PostDocs and PhD-students.
