Background

The ongoing digitalization in society and industry has a need for expertise and new knowledge in digitization, data analysis and visualization of information. The digitalization so requires new competences for relating, understanding, interpreting, and presenting data.

Artificial Intelligence has become important to extract information from data. However, making the output of these algorithms available to different users has had less attention. Therefore, the production of efficient visualizations and relating them to parameters of AI algorithms becomes imperative to enable insight for decision makers for the specific circumstances.

The project will enable education of students with requested competences, and produce new knowledge through research applicable to large societal and industrial challenges related to big data, information overflow, information extraction, visualization and insight.

Project goals

The aim of this project is to reinforce and renew the competence in Information Visualization and Visual Analytics.

This will be obtained by:

  • Employing an Associate Senior Lecturer in order to support and strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish companies.
  • The lecturer will be involved in both education, research, and collaboration with business partners and society.

The associate senior lecturer will also:

  • take an important role in supplying competence to Mid Swden University's contribution to the Research Infrastructure for Visualization in collaboration with other Visualization researchers in Sweden. 
  • supplement existing researchers at the Department of Information Systems and Technology.
  • the lecturer will investigate visualizing by (3D) Augmented Reality with researchers in Multidimensional Signal Processing, and Visual Analytics will be investigated in order to use the human brain’s efficient ability to identify patterns and motion based on parameterizations of data mining algorithms, with researcher in Data.
  • the lecturer will investigate visualizing by (3D) Augmented Reality with researchers in Multidimensional Signal Processing, and Visual Analytics will be investigated in order to use the human brain’s efficient ability to identify patterns and motion based on parameterizations of data mining algorithms, with researcher in Data.

The project will extend research in Information Visualization by close collaboration with surrounding society, and a number of companies.
