Meng Jiang

Can you tell us a little about your background?

After one-year’s study of financial accounting at Shanghai University I found out this is not what I interested in. In the year of 2010 I had the opportunity to study in Sweden in Electronics at Mid Sweden University. As a part of my Bachelor studies I finished a sound characterization related project, and that leads to a later on decided to enrol in a Master by Research programme within the major of sound localization.

My master dissertation research involves indoor sound source localization technology evaluation, experiment designing and system performance comparison. When I heard there is a Ph.D. position by focusing on sound localization, I applied to it without hesitation.

What is your area of interest?

With the background of a talented flute player and great curiosity of acoustic related techniques, my research interests are sound characterization and sound localization.

What is it that you are going to investigate here at STC?

My research will mainly focus on studying sound source localization methods for the classification of the lateral position of sound sources. Emphasis will be on evaluating and developing sound source localization methods.

Why did you choose Mid Sweden University?

One of the reasons that I choose Mid Sweden University is because of the department's strengths in both education and well-supported collaborative research. Besides, my MbR programme served as a pre-study of this Ph.D. position. Thus, I consider it as a very rich experience to continue my research path and accomplish the future work of my pre-study.

How do you like it here so far?

I finished both my Bachelor and Master degree in Mid Sweden University, and I have lived here for 10 years now. It is a quite positive and vibrant learning atmosphere in the university and a very peaceful and stress-free lifestyle in Sundsvall.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am playing flute in Sundsvall Wind Band (Sundsvall Blåsokester, SBO).
