Rasmus Nordmark – student and employed teaching assistant in Human Geography
Rasmus Nordmark is studying the Tourism and Destination Development Programme at Mid Sweden University. After his first year at the university, Rasmus also works 25% as an amanuensis in Human Geography. We asked Rasmus three quick questions to hear how it goes!
Rasmus, How did you come to work as an amanuensis in Human Geography?
– I applied for the job as an amanuensis mainly because I enjoyed my studies very much in the first year. Therefore, I thought about whether future jobs at the university could be something for me, so when the position appeared, it felt like a good idea to apply to get a little insight into working life at the university.
What are you doing/going to do in the future?
– So far, it has been very exciting data collection, a focus group with an associated field study. Now I have pretty much finished preparing in SPSS to be able to code quantitative data and the first survey responses are starting to roll in. In a few weeks, there will also be a fair regarding outdoor life and health in Stockholm, where I will go and hopefully get a good overview of the world around me!
Tell us, what were your expectations before starting to work as an amanuensis and how does it feel now?
– Right now it feels very good! I'm not going to lie, it was a bit nervous partly at the interview but also right at the beginning of the service. I was not sure if I would be able to cope with the work but also how I would combine it with my studies. However, my colleagues are fantastic and really gave me a good start at my workplace and the times are very flexible so it is no problem to combine with studies.
