Diabetes in school (DIS): a qualitative multiperspective study of the school situation for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes
The school situation for children and young people with diabetes is a matter for the family, school, health care and society at large, as previous research results have shown that these children and young people are at risk of poorer health and shorter life expectancy.
A research project that focuses on the school situation for children and young people with type 1 diabetes is conducted at the Department of Nursing. A lot of research regarding diabetes focus on the treatment and there are very few projects focusing on the school situation The overall purpose of the project is to investigate and describe the school situation for children and young people with diabetes from the perspective of children, parents and school staff as well as care staff.
The project has a qualitative approach and is based on narrative interviews; with young people with type 1 diabetes, parents with children or young people with type 1 diabetes, school staff (teachers, leisure educators, preschool class educators, physical education teachers, school nurses, school leaders / principals) who have experience of students with type 1 diabetes and diabetes teams (doctors, nurses , dietitian, physiotherapist, counselor) at pediatric clinics working with this patient group.
