Effects of a single session of a body‑oriented treatment on adults with varying degrees of child maltreatment
This project explores whether a single session of a body oriented psychotherapeutic intervention (somatic experiencing) has a positive impact on perceived social safety.
Child maltreatment increases the risk of trauma- related mental disorders and social impairments. While effective treatments for mental disorders exist, current treatments do not adequately address problems in social functioning.
To address this gap, we are conducting two randomized controlled studies to assess the potential of a single somatic experiencing session, a body-oriented approach, for improving social impairments such as lack of perceived safety and a sense of disrupted body boundaries.
