Reading resource room

The reading resource rooms are available for students with visual or reading impairments. The computers in the rooms are equipped with special software designed to help you read and write. The computers are bookable via the student portal and available around-the-clock. Contact a co-ordinatior to get access to the resource rooms. 

In Östersund, the reading resource room is located in the G Building on floor 3, room G3364.

In Sundsvall, there are three reading resource rooms in Learning Space on floor 4 in the N-house.

Computer software in the reading resource rooms


To be able to read talking books on a computer, you will need a reading program. Amis can be downloaded for free.

Gustavas ordböcker

Swedish and English thesaurus. Includes words, expressions, synonyms, examples, phrases and foreign words. In this thesaurus you can find a word even if you misspell it.

Screen Ruler (only in Östersund)

Allows you to enhance and change the contrast of the text by dragging a magnifying strip over it.


An English spelling program.

Stava Rex

A Swedish spelling program. The program is developed for those with dyslexia, but is also used by those with other reading disabilities.


Program for reading e-text.


TorTalk is a text-to-speech program that can read all kind of texts on the screen.


A magnification program with magnification from 1.25 to 36 times. Text smoothing for all colours. Good settings for mouse and cursor. Texts read with speech synthesis.
