Financial support for Open Access publishing
Publish Open Access with funding through national library agreements with various publishers.
Publish Open Access through national library agreements
Researchers affiliated with Mid Sweden University have the opportunity to publish open access free of charge in journals from various publishers. This is made possible through national library agreements meaning that the library will cover the APC costs (APC = article processing charge). This means that you can publish open access for free. Since publishers often identifies eligible articles from your email domain name, make sure to always use your Mid Sweden University e-mail address (firstname.lastname@miun.se) at all stages of the publishing.
The University Library is now launching a new search tool to find these journals. The search tool will make it easier to find journals with cost-free OA publishing. All journals covered by our agreements are included in the tool, which contains around 12 000 journals. Note! MDPI journals are not included. More information on why can be found further down the page.

APC discounts
Sage offers subscribing institutions 20% discount when publishing in full Open Access journals. The invoice will be sent to the corresponding author.
Frontiers offers BIBSAM institutions 10% discount when publishing in their journals. The invoice must be sent via the library in order to get the discount, but the author takes the cost.
MDPI offers BIBSAM institutions 10% discount when publishing in their journals.
There is currently a debate in Sweden about MDPI and questionable quality reviews.
Since January 2022, we have chosen to join Bibsam’s discount agreement with MDPI upon request from researchers at the university.
The University Library recommends that anyone considering publishing at MDPI critically review the current journal.
