Unique joint Master in Photojournalism in Scandinavia!
In the fall of 2020, a unique international Master in Photojournalism is planned to start in Scandinavia. It will be shared between three renowned higher-level photojournalism educations in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
-We are happy to announce that the Oslo Metropolitan University, Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus and Mid-Sweden university, will be coordinating a unique international Master program in photojournalism, says Terje Lindblom, Project Coordinator and Subject Head of Photojournalism at Mid-Sweden University.
To benefit from the institutions long experience of teaching photojournalism and to build a modern Master program, the syllabus will be shared between the institutions during the two-year of master courses, thus creating a unique educational experience for both Nordic and international students of the program.
-Yes, the plan is that the studies will be done at the campuses in Aarhus, Sundsvall and Oslo, giving students great possibilities to develop their professional style, while being mentored by several experienced international teachers, says Søren Pagter Head of Photojournalism at Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus.
Research at Mid-Sweden University shows that while the use of photos and videos has increased during the last decade, especially on new digital media platforms, rapid changes have also had a shifting effect on occupational roles in media. Thus, the needs for professionals for re-skilling or developing their talents in photojournalism and visual journalism has improved. The goal of the Master is to provide students with necessary professional abilities in order for them to develop their visual journalism and photojournalism for the new media industry.
-The joint Master will have both theoretical as well as professional courses so students will get the tools to reflect and understand the modern media industry, their roles as photojournalists as well as to further develop their visual projects, says Jon Petter Evensen Assistant Professor in Photojournalism at Oslo Metropolitan University.
