Aim

The purpose with the course is that the students shall acquire a knowledge that provides an understanding about the relationship between an organisation’s structure, leadership and communication.

Course objectives

After completion of the course students should have sufficient knowledge to:

- describe the development of leadership thought
- describe organisational communication as theory and research field,
- analyse and discuss the conditions for leadership communication on a group and organisation levels,
- independently search and utilize books and international peer reviewed articles in subject specific databases.

Content

During the course leadership thought and organisation communication are presented as research areas. Theories on these issues are discussed in relation to different applications.

Focus in the course is on
- leadership theory in a historical and contemporary perspective
- organisational communication in theory and practice
-application of the communicative perspective on leadership and organisation.

Entry requirements

Degree of Bachelor with 90 H E Credits in Business Administration or corresponding education.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

3000: Individual written exam, 4.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

3001: Written assignment 1 (including seminar attendance), 3.0 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

3002: Written assignment 2 (including seminar attendance), 0.0 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

3003: Business element, Practical application, 0.0 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

Campus course and Distance course:

At home exam or written assignment a supplementary oral presentation may be requested by the teacher in order for the student to show the required knowledge. This is to ensure that the student is the actual sender and author of the written work.

If the student has a decision from the coordinator at the Mid Sweden University on pedagogical support in case of disability, the examiner has the right to provide a suitable examination for the student.
