The course is mainly focused towards design and method choices based on the student’s question formulation and analyses based on the chosen method and data. The orientation towards basic statistics continues with a focus on the connection between design and choice of statistical method.

Course objectives

Having completed the course, students are expected to be able to:

Knowledge and understanding
• Account for the basic logic of ANOVA.
• Account for basic strategies available in a qualitative approach.
• Benefit from academic reports focusing on identifying question formulations or hypotheses, choice of approach, analytical method and central results.

Competence and skills
• Choose a design within a given frame and formulate which conclusions can be drawn as a result of that design
• Choose and motivate a statistical method based on given data and question formulation.

• Categorical data and Chi2
• N= 1 designer and designer applied in clinical practice

Qualitative methods; data collection methods, such as interview, focus group and observation, analytical methods, such as thematic analysis, grounded theory, discourse analysis and narrative analysis.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The teaching consists of lessons, seminars and calculating groups for the statistics unit.

Other information

Students admitted to the earlier version of the course are entitled to three examinations within one calendar year in accordance with that course syllabus. Thereafter, the students are transferred to the current course syllabus.

All parts of the course are part of the examination and seminars, group activities and laboratory sessions are mandatory. Students who are not present may be given a second opportunity the next year or next time the course is offered.

All undervisning är examinationsgrundande och seminarier, gruppövningar och laborationer är obligatoriska. Student som ej uppfyller krav om obligatorisk närvaro kan ges möjlighet att komplettera detta under det följande året eller vid nästkommande tillfälle som kursen ges.
