The course introduces the role of emotion within the fields of health psychology and behavior medicine.

Associations are both presented in terms of emotions as predictors of health and emotional consequences of health-related problems. Areas that are covered includes different emotional theories/concepts in the development and maintenance of health-related problems such as pain, sleep, stress, cardio-vascular disease. In addition, the field of emotional consequences in ill-health are presented and bidirectional mechanisms are discussed.


The course starts with a mandatory meeting at the campus in Östersund, Sweden.

As there is mandatory web-seminars during the course, you need a headset, a webcam and a well-functioning internet connection.

Entry requirements

A bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits (ECTS) with a major in psychology. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits (ECTS) with a different major and 60 credits in psychology. Alternatively, 180 credits (ECTS) in psychology without the requirement of having a completed degree. English B/English 6 from Swedish gymnasium or the equivalent.
