Mechanical Engineering MA, Material Characterization, 7.5 credits
Looking to deepen your understanding of properties of additively manufactured materials? This course covers the basic principles of microstructure formation, microstructure-properties relations, and comparative analysis of properties of materials manufactured using different methods, with a focus on metallic materials such as steels, Ti-alloys, Al-alloys, and Ni-alloys. We'll also introduce you to other materials. Through dedicated lectures and discussions, you'll gain insight into the mechanisms of defect formation and how they affect mechanical properties, as well as how manufacturing methods impact the main properties of materials. You'll learn to identify and describe differences in the microstructure of additively manufactured versus conventionally manufactured materials, and suggest ways to post-treat additively manufactured materials to improve properties. Sign up now to enhance your expertise in additive manufacturing!
