Do you want to work in the area of Internet of Things? This MSc programme addresses all the future challenges where an increasing number of different machines, sensors and actuators are connected. These complex connected systems can be found in areas such as smart homes, smart cities, smart industries, and so on. The Internet of Things is a new and fast expanding area in Computer Science, covering both theoretical and engineering topics.

The programme in computer engineering is an international oriented programme taught entirely in English. This innovative multidisciplinary programme will provide you with advanced knowledge and skills in three essential and critical areas: Communication Networks, Data Analytics, and Security and Privacy. As a student of this master’s programme, you will develop a solid grasp of computer systems and networks through a broad, yet in-depth, training experience in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. Courses in machine learning, data mining, wireless networks, network security, distributed systems, visualization, and performance modelling are taught by internationally recognized faculty members in the field of computer engineering. In addition to academic training in skills related to Internet of things connectivity, algorithm design, and communication networks engineering, you will gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies and have opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research. The research groups in computer engineering at our university are recognized for their research excellence in wireless sensor networks and 3D visualization.

The degree project amounts to one full semester of full-time work and is normally undertaken during the last term. The project is carried out in the area defined by and relevant to the courses taken during the programme. The project may be undertaken in an industry setting, either at a Mid Sweden University department, or in another university or research institute anywhere in the world.

After the program

A degree from Mid Sweden University constitutes an excellent foundation for a successful international career. Our graduates are employed in many companies, both local and international ones, and they have taken on a wide variety of tasks. Their jobs include positions as hardware/software developers and application analysis/development engineers, telecommunications network engineers or research and development engineers. As their careers progress, they assume positions as design team leaders, hardware/software architects or consultants, and many have progressed to management positions in R&D departments. Others have opted for academic careers and continued their studies in order to pursue a PhD.

Work experience contact

The research groups at the department have an excellent network with industry, including companies like IBM, Intel, Google, Ericsson, Huawei, ABB, Siemens, and BBC.
