Our project-based master's program in environmental engineering is intended for you who want to immerse yourself deeper in the subject. During the education, you work together with researchers with a specific research question. You alternate the research work with academic studies that are needed to solve the task.

The education consists of courses and project work at advanced level and leads to an independent work during the last semester. After the education, you as a student should:
- based on a given problem in the subject area, be able to choose the appropriate method and work process
- be able to analyze a problem and based on that plan and document knowledge acquisition and implementation of the project
- have developed the ability to understand and assess the possibilities and limitations of different methods
- be able to independently plan, carry out and communicate the results of a project work of a larger scale

The program is given in close collaboration with our research in Ecotechnology and Environmental Science, which is the interdisciplinary study of human societies in interaction with nature. We place special emphasis on the development of new systems for the long-term sustainable use of natural resources.

The projects deal with, for example, ecological engineering, wastewater treatment, sustainability assessment, sustainable building engineering, society's transition from a fossil to a bio-based economy, land use and energy systems, production and use of biomass for food, fiber, and energy, sustainable land use strategies based on e.g. climate change, energy security and food security.
