Aim

The course aims to give an historical and contemporary perspective on style expression and aesthetics. The course addresses aesthetic phenomena, trends and paradigms within the realm of expression of photographic style, in order to provide a conceptual knowledge base for the innovation and development of a visual language.

Course objectives

After satisfactory completion of this course, the student is expected to be able to:
- distinguish and name contemporary style expressions and approaches, and describe purpose and goal with the different stylistic varieties
- account for the importance of aesthetics for the message
- identify a personal stylistic approach and articulate and apply method/methods for further developing a personal address in the visual language
- participate in the discourse within the profession about visual expressions of style and the effect and development of aesthetics

Entry requirements

Photojournalism MA, 37,5 Credits, including Visual Communication Theory and Method, 7,5 Credits.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The teaching formats include seminars and workshops.

Examination form

A passing course grade requires a passing grade on all exercises as well as attendance and active participation.
Attendance is obligatory at all seminars and workshops. Absence and late assignments may have a negative impact on the course grade.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
