Aim

The aim of the course is to illuminate and reflect on the photojournalist’s three fundamental areas of responsibility: the responsibility towards the subject, the responsibility towards the reader of the image, and the responsibility towards the image-maker’s own personal choices. Furthermore, the course aims to address the cultural foundations of photojournalistic media ethics and its interaction with the development of society.

Course objectives

After satisfactory completion of this course, the student is expected to be able to:
- articulate a fundamental value system for the ethics of photojournalism
- analyze photojournalistic works from an ethical standpoint
- participate in a professional discourse about the application of ethics in the media business and in the photojournalistic profession

M100: Topics in Media Ethics för Photojournalism, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

A passing course grade requires a passing grade on all exercises as well as attendance and active participation.

Attendance is obligatory at all seminars and workshops. Absence and late assignments may have a negative impact on the course grade.
