Aim
This course covers the protocols, architectures and applications that is used in todays network to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability.
Course objectives
After finishing this course you should be able to:
- Evaluate and compare security solutions for communication based on the internet model, for example
- calculate the overhead that different network protocols add to the network traffic
- calculate and reflect over false positives and negative search hits.
- Construct a network from a user and managing point of view
- Independently assimilate and explain new knowledge based on research.
- Discuss how lacking network security can affect society.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

L111: Laboratory exercises, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
S110: Seminars, 3 Credits

T110: Exam, 1.5 Credits

The examiner has the right to offer alternative examination arrangements to students who have been granted the right to special support by Mid Sweden University’s disabilities adviser.
If examination on campus cannot be conducted according to decision by the vice-chancellor, or whom he delegated the right to, the following applies: Exam, T110, will be replaced with two parts, online examination and follow-up. Within three weeks of the online examination, a selection of students will be contacted and asked questions regarding the examination. The follow-up consists of questions concerning the execution of the on-line exam and the answers that the student have submitted.
