Aim

The student shall during the course acquire basic knowledge of derivatives and integrals with applications as well as of elementary statistics. Further the student shall acquire proficiency in using MATLAB for computations in the mentioned areas.

Course objectives

After completed course the student shall
- know and be able to apply the concepts of derivative and integral
- be able to differentiate and integrate analytically and by means of MATLAB
- know the concepts of random variable and probability density function and be able to apply these to solve simple problems analytically and by means of MATLAB
- know the concepts of confidence interval, hypothesis testing and linear regression and be able to apply these to solve simple problems analytically and by means of MATLAB

Content

Computations and applications of derivatives and integrals. Introduction to performing computations of derivatives and integrals as well as solving equations and simple differential equations by means of MATLAB. Treatment of descriptive statistics, random variables, probability density and cumulative distributions functions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and linear regression both analytically and by means of MATLAB.
