Aim
The aim of the course is for students to gain knowledge of social work as a field of research, both nationally and internationally.
Course objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to:
• Describe the current knowledge within a specific field of research in social work
• Demonstrate critical understanding of how national and international social work constitutes a research discipline, both historically and theoretically
• Reflect over the relationship between theory and practice within social work's national and international fields.
• Critically review and evaluate the quality and composition of research test in the social science field.
Content
The course provides an overview of social work knowledge and includes both various directions in Sweden and important trends that can be identified internationally. The course also covers the growth of social work as a research discipline, different research perspectives and the critical approach that serves as the basis of all social-scientific research.
Through a series of lectures, course participants meet leading representatives of the department's research projects to discuss research in social work.
Entry requirements
General entry requirements plus Sh A and Ma A. Bachelor of Science with 90 HE credits GR (A, B, C) in a behavioural or social science main field of study.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
Instruction is in the form of lectures and seminars. Attendance at these assemblies is mandatory. Compensation can be made for absence on one or two occasions upon arrangement with the examiner.
The course is greatly dependent on course participants' own knowledge acquisition.
Examination form
0010: Examination, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Examination tasks consist of: i) during the course selecting and reviewing a thesis in social work ii) writing a brief research overview (2-3 pages) within a limited area.
