Aim
The aim of the course is to acquaint the student with different perspectives within the theory of science, and within ethics. After the course is completed, the student should be able to relate such different perspectives to his/her own area of research.
Course objectives
After the course is completed, the student should be able to
- give an account of the main outlines of the different perspectives within the theory of science, and within ethics,
- take a critical attitude towards the different perspectives within the theory of science, and within ethics,
- compare the different perspectives within the theory of science, and within ethics,
- relate the different perspectives within the theory of science, and within ethics to the student’s own area of research.
Content
The course consists of two parts. The first part deals with theory of science, e.g., inductivism, Popper’s falsificationism, Lakatos’ research program, and Kuhn’s paradigm. The second part deals with research ethics.
Entry requirements
Bachelor in Social Sciences with 90 ECTS in Political Science.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching will take place as lectures and seminars.
Examination form
Examination will take the form of written examination and active participation at seminars.

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Other information
Demands for compulsory attendance may be specified in a student’s guide. If demands for attendance are not met, the student has an opportunity to complete that the next time the course is given.
