The background of Mitt Råd
The idea for Mitt Råd came when two (2) teachers at the Department of Psychology and Social Work at Mid Sweden University visited Bergen Uavhengige Sosialrådgivning (BUS) in Norway. BUS is a well-established free office that has been open for over 20 years and have been engaged in the education of social work students at Högskolen Vestlandet Bergen. BUS helps people of all ages who seek guidance in various social issues. The visit to BUS in Norway made quite an impression and the idea of establishing a similar office at Mid Sweden University, Campus Östersund, was born.
Mitt Råd started as a project in the autumn of 2020. Six (6) social work students began laying the foundation for Mitt Råd with the support of project leaders and supervisors at the Department of Psychology and Social Work. The students carried out this work within their course of supervised field-based education (internship). In the spring of 2021, a new group of social work students continued the work. The grand opening of Mitt Råd was held on October 20, 2021.
Mitt Råd’s mission
Mitt Råd wants to contribute to the benefit of society and exist for individuals who did not receive the right help from authorities or institutions. In addition, Mitt Råd is a unique opportunity for social work students to acquire practical knowledge about social work during their studies at Mid Sweden University, Campus Östersund.
Mitt Råd can be described as a complement to the social field and have, in addition to the telephone counselling, collaboration with other services. During the autumn of 2021, a collaboration is ongoing with “Hej Främling!” and Innanförskapsakademin in Östersund.
