Academic Ceremony 9-10 October, 2025
The Academic Ceremony extends over two days, 9-10 October. On 9 October, honorary doctors and professors hold inauguration lectures at Campus Östersund. On Thursday, after the end of the inaugural lectures, a general rehearsal will be held for all procession participants, followed by the Vice-Chancellor’s formal dinner. On 10 October, the ceremony takes place at Campus Östersund.
Banquet
The ceremony is followed by a banquet and starts with a mingle. During the dinner there will be speeches and entertainment.
Mid Sweden University invites promovendi and installandi with an accompanying person to the banquet. In addition, you have the opportunity to invite up to four additional guests at an envelope price.
The banquet is a formal meal lasting several hours and where alcohol is served. Thus, it is not suitable for children under the age of 16 years old.
Formal Attire
For those who participate in the procession, festive costume applies — i.e. frack with white vest/girdle and white fly/roset as well as black socks and black lacquer shoes, and long dress/top with a long skirt in any colour.
Accompanying person and guests
For your accompanying person and any guests, festive costume or dark suit at the banquet applies. Guests who only attend as an audience during the ceremony can wear any clothing.
Travel and hotels
The university reimburses trips between campuses for promovendi or installandi. If you live in a place other than Sundsvall/Östersund, you pay for your own travel. Your accompanying person will also pay for any travels themselves.
The university pays for accommodation in a hotel for those who do not have Östersund as their place of work. Your accompanying person lives with you at no cost. Hotels can be booked through our self-booking system or via the travel agency Lingmerths.
Register via the link in the invitation
At the end of August, you will receive an official invitation to the Academic Ceremony with a link to our registration system. Please note that you must register yourself and your accompanying person to the banquet in the registration system.
Doctors
Ordering a laurel wreath, hat or ring (insignia)
Before the ceremony you need to order a laurel wreath or a hat. You can also choose to order a ring.
- Doctoral hat, order no later than 27 June
- Laurel wreath, order no later than 5 September
- Doctoral ring, order no later than 5 September
Material for presentation at the Academic Ceremony
In connection with the Academic Ceremony, we show a digital presentation with all new honorary doctors, doctors and professors. For this you need to submit a text and an image by 15 September.

As a participant at our Academic Ceremony, you should know that inauguration lectures and the ceremony are documented with photo and video. If you do not want to appear on the photoes and on the video, please let us know.
