A Two‑Day Celebration When Mid Sweden University Opened on 10‑11 February | 2005 |
On 10 February, the official and ceremonial opening of Mid Sweden University was held in Härnösand Cathedral.
Among the 300 specially invited guests were the Mid Sweden University student unions, professors, representatives of the regional municipalities, county councils and county administrative boards, government representatives, members of the Swedish Parliament, Vice-Chancellors of other universities and university colleges, honorary doctors, collaboration partners and others. As the church can hold up to 800 people, anyone else who was interested was also welcome as long as there was still room.
On 11 February was the grand opening for the region, public, students and staff. It involved an eventful and exciting program for all four campuses. When the planning for the opening began, the plans included an “Open house for the public”. As the work went on, there was a steady flow of ideas and creativity, which resulted in a giant happening for anyone who wanted to participate in the towns where Mid Sweden University’s campuses are located. Aside from a broad presentation of the university’s activities and a series of lectures, Mid Sweden University offered adventurous outdoor activities, such as climbing, a cableway, world record attempts and a jousting tournament
All the campuses were linked via big screens, which alternated live broadcasts from each campus, so that everyone could see what was happening on the other campuses. The guests were also offered cake. A pastry chef from the town of each campus had made a cake that was special for their town. All four cakes had their own history and their own distinctive character. Just like the four campuses.
