The Disciplinary Research Domain of Natural Science ‑ Halfway to Full University Status | 2001 |
A complementary application for full university status was submitted to the government in December of 1999, after the measures suggested by the panel from the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education two years earlier had been taken.
This time, the panel from the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education recommended that the University be awarded the disciplinary research domain of natural sciences from 1 January 2001, which was also what the government decided. This meant that Mid Sweden University was awarded university status in the disciplinary research domain of natural sciences, that is to say the right to offer doctoral studies and award doctoral degrees in that field. However, it was the opinion of the panel that Mid Sweden University needed more time to develop the field of human sciences.
