Opening of the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre | 2008 |
2 golds. 5 silvers. 4 bronzes. The cross-country skiers’ success at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics was historic. And it was at the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre (SWSRC) in Östersund that the conditions for that success were created.
When the SWSRC opened, no one could anticipate how successful a venture it would prove to be. It has become one of the country’s leading environments for sports-based research – a place where the elites of the worlds of research and winter sports are united. Besides showers of medals, it has also resulted in about 50 research reports per year and the fact that they are world leaders at ski research.
The municipality of Östersund has been involved in SWSRC since 2007 and this is one of the research environments at Mid Sweden University in which the municipality invests extra money in order to make Campus Östersund more attractive.
