Faculty of Science, Technology and Media

The Department of Chemical Engineering is located at Campus Sundsvall. The department conducts research and education in Energy Engineering and Chemical Engineering.

The research group in Surface and Colloid Engineering, Mid Sweden University has one open position: Postdoc focusing on preparation and characterization of functional cellulose nanocomposites.

Job description: Dissolution of cellulose into molecular solutions in water-based solvents followed by regeneration forms the basis of our investigations on renewable materials that could replace oil-based plastics. In this project, we want to investigate the possibilities to prepare cellulose-based nanocomposites with different functionalities further, for example barriers against moisture and oxygen, nanocomposites with antibacterial properties, responsive hydrogels and all-cellulose composites with extraordinary mechanical properties. The planned work is mainly experimental and involves preparation and characterization of different cellulose-based nanocomposite films via e.g. casting and electrospinning. All-cellulose composites prepared by combinations of CNC/CNF and molecularly dissolved cellulose are other examples of study topics. The applicant need to acknowledge teamwork; the position includes cooperation with PhD students, research groups outside the university and it could also include masters student supervision.

Requirements and assessment: The Postdoc position requires a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering, and a strong scientific record. To qualify for an employment as a post-doctor, the applicant must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD and the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application due date; however, for example, periods of sick leave or parental leave can be deducted from the three-year period.
Good oral and written communication skills in English are very important for the position. Earlier experience in research on cellulose and composite materials is a plus.

Terms of employment: Full-time 1 year, with possible extension 1 year (1 + 1 year).

Location: The Department of Chemical Engineering is situated at Campus Sundsvall. The department has 50 employees and a strong focus on research.
Entry: According to agreement.
Salary: According to agreement.
