A PhD student in Electronics

The position available focuses on research in Electronics. It is an opportunity to take part in the development of new techniques and methods for efficient installation of optical fiber networks. This research is part of the research environment Transformative Technologies at Mid Sweden University. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with a number of regional and national partners, as well as with other researchers at the research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate). The position focuses on the implementation of small inertial navigation systems. The work includes both electronics design of compact embedded systems and signal processing. You will get the opportunity to perform theoretical and experimental research related to this field.

Job description: Graduate studies including 80–100% research, may include up to 20% teaching and administrative work.

Requirements and assessment: To be considered for a PhD position, the applicant must meet the entry requirements for admission to Mid Sweden University’s third-cycle programme. In order to meet the entry requirements the applicant must have a second-cycle degree, or have completed at least 240 ECTS of which at least 60 credits should be second-cycle courses. An additional requirement is that 90 credits of the 240 total must consist of courses in electronics or related subjects. The applicant is also eligible for consideration if s/he has acquired the corresponding knowledge in some other way.

In addition to formal skills, the selection will also be based on other work (i.e. thesis work), additional studies and applicant interview. As the successful applicant will work closely with related projects, previous experience from optical fiber installation, embedded systems, analog electronics, signal processing, radio- and antenna technology, power electronics and induction heating will strengthen your application. Personal qualities like teamwork skills, spirit of initiative, and suitability for PhD studies will be considered in addition to the formal subject knowledge. A short description of your visions and goals should be included in the application.

Terms of employment: The PhD position refers to employment corresponding to two years of fulltime studies which are expected to lead to a licentiate degree. Provided that additional funding is obtained, the employment could be extended to a PhD.
