Activities and workshops
Friluftsdagen offers free activities and workshops both on campus and around Sundsvall. Some activities are open and do not require pre-registration, while others have a limited number of places and you need to register.
Open activities:
The activities are open to everyone and you do not need to sign up, just show up.
Activities with pre-registration:
Some activities have a limited number of places and require pre-registration. To participate in these, you need to register in advance.
Registration is open from 10 September at 09.00 to 22 September at 13.00. During this period, you will find registration links under each activity in the program.
Below you can see the current program with times, meeting places and information about any need for pre-registration. More activities will be added, so please keep an eye out for updates.

Aikido
Aikido with Aikido Sundsvall Meiseikai
Welcome to try Aikido with Aikido Sundsvall Meiseikai.
Aikido is a Japanese budo form and is often referred to as the peaceful martial art. We use the attacker's power and energy for self-defense. But aikido is much more than just a martial art. We train balance, coordination, agility, mental focus and much more.
If you want to try this versatile form of exercise, then dress in comfortable workout clothes. We train barefoot or in socks. Don't forget to take off your jewellery and watch.Time: Drop in between 14.45-16.00

Come and play badminton at Baldershallen. Instructors are on site if you want to get tips.

Bouldering
Introduction to bouldering at Sundsvalls Klätterhall
Welcome to try climbing! Here you get an introduction to bouldering, an instructor goes through the basics, shows how it works and shares tips and tricks.
Time: 15.30-16.30
Meeting place: Sundsvalls Klätterhall, Universitetsallén 30
Clothing: Comfortable sportswear. Borrowing of climbing shoes is included free of charge on Friluftsdagen

Disc golf
Try Disc Golf
Disc golf is one of Sweden's fastest growing sports, starting with technique training where you learn the basics of throwing technique. Then we take a round and play a few holes together. The session is led by Andreas Haugen.
Equipment is available to borrow, but feel free to bring your own discs if you have.
Time: Afternoon, about 2 hours

Running
Running with Trail Thursday
Join us for a 5 km run by Selångersån at a buddy pace. We run at a calm, social pace where everyone can participate regardless of level.
Time: Startsevery full hour at 13.00, 14.00 and 15.00
Meeting place: Outside the entrance to the O Building
Open activity, no registration needed. The organizers are Trailthursday, a group from Mid Sweden University who meet to run on Thursdays at 11.30 AM.

Exercise swimming
Exercise swimming at Himlabadet outdoor pool
Himlabadet offers free entry for exercise swimming at the outdoor pool during the Outdoor Day. The outdoor pool is 28 degrees Celsius. Bring your swimwear, towel and your Miun tag to show at the entrance.
Time: 13.00-18.00

Muscle Challenge
Muscle Challenge at EGO City
Welcome to a fast-paced circuit workout where strength and fitness are combined in a simple, fun and sweaty way.Come and try one of Ego Sundsvall's most popular classes. You work at 10 different stations with equipment such as dumbbells, kettlebells, balls, punching bags, rubber bands and much more. Each exercise lasts for about 40 seconds at your own pace. The session starts with a joint warm-up where we go through the exercises, with alternatives and adaptations if necessary. Everyone can participate, regardless of level.
Time: 16.15-17.00

SUP paddling
SUP paddling on the Selånger River
Join us on a paddling on the beautiful Selångersån! We gather at Selånger IP changed and ready with pumped-up SUPs. Life jackets are mandatory. We start in Selångersfjärden and then glide down the river, through beautiful natural environments, all the way to Åkroken at Mid Sweden University.
Remember to pack a dry change of clothes in a waterproof bag, you may get wet along the way, and your mobile phone will also benefit from staying in a waterproof bag or case during this activity. This is a joint paddling, so we paddle together in groups. Along the way, we stop and have a small coffee at our SUPs, so bring a water bottle/hot drink and a small coffee/snack that you can eat on your SUP.
Time: 08.30 (with pumped-up SUP). We plan to go ashore at about 11.00-11.30 at Åkroken, outside Mid Sweden University
Meeting place: Selånger IP, map will be emailed to you who register
Prior knowledge: You need to have paddled SUP before – the water is cold
To bring:
- Pumped-up SUP and paddle
- Life jacket (mandatory)
- Change of clothes in waterproof bag
- Water bottle or hot drink
- Small coffee/snack to eat on the water
- Don't bring: your laptop
Tips on clothing:
- Avoid cotton, it gets cold when it gets wet
- Invest in wool underwear or other quick-drying materials
- A thin windbreaker can be comfortable in chilly winds
In case of bad weather, the activity is cancelled.

Padel
Padel at Baldershallen
Welcome to try padel, a fun and social racket sport that is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. During Friluftsdagen, you have the opportunity to play padel in Baldershallen together with other students and staff. Rackets and balls are available to borrow on site.
Come as you are, no prior knowledge is required!
Time: Drop in at 14.30-16.00

Pickleball
Pickleball at Baldershallen
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, table tennis and badminton. You play with paddles made of wood or composite material and a perforated plastic ball (similar to a floorball ball). The court has the dimensions of a badminton court and the net is placed in the same way as a tennis net. Pickleball can be played both as singles and doubles. Suitable for everyone and quick to learn.
Time: Drop in at 13.00-16.00.

Table tennis

Challenge a colleague or fellow student to table tennis. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or an experienced player, everyone is welcome.

Pole Dance
Pole Dance at Pole Point Studio
Come and try out a world that spins during a try-out session in Pole dance. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to try something new and have fun in a stimulating environment. Our instructors at Pole Point Studio (Pole Dance, Chair Dance, Stretch & Strength) have over 13 years of experience.
We offer two sessions during Friluftsdagen
Time session 1: 13.30-14.30. Time session 2: 15.00-16.00

Equipment:
- Shorts & tank top
- Water bottle
- If possible, avoid body lotions, hand creams and other products with oil at least 12 hours before the session.
- Jewelry is prohibited during classes as it can damage the bars

Laughter yoga
Laughter yoga with Maja at Studenthälsan
Feeling stressed and tired or just in need of an energy boost? Then laughter yoga is for you! When was the last time you laughed really hard? Not a giggle or small laughter, but a deep stomach-churning laugh. Laughter is not only fun, it is also incredibly beneficial. During the session, we do different laughter exercises together through movement, eye contact and lots of joy.Time: 14.00

Softball
Softball at Västhagen
Slow-pitch softball is a fun and relaxed team sport. The ball is thrown underhand, which makes it easier to hit than in regular softball. The focus is on having fun together, with simple rules, team play and a great social atmosphere. Suitable for everyone, regardless of previous experience.
Come as you are with a happy mood and a good cheer-chant in your back pocket! No equipment is needed, but clothes and shoes for activity on artificial grass.
Time: 13.15-16.00

Squash
Squash at Baldershallen
Squash is played by two players on an indoor court surrounded by four walls. The players take turns hitting the ball against the wall, always over a marked plate at the floor and below a certain height. The goal is to get the opponent to miss the ball before it bounces twice on the floor, an intense sport that trains both fitness, speed and reaction.
Time: Drop in at 13.00-16.00.

Powerlifting - bench press and deadlift
Try powerlifting at Sundsvalls Atletklubb
If you want to test your strength in bench press or deadlift and get tips and tricks from two of our members who compete in powerlifting and bench press, you are very welcome to Sundsvalls Atletklubb. We are a non-profit association with competitive athletes in powerlifting/bench press and weightlifting, we also have gym machines for those who have not tried training with free weights. Our activities accommodate everything from a youth 11-13 group up to senior (60+) groups.
Time for bench press workshop: 13.30-14.30
Time for deadlifts workshop: 14.30-15.30

Equipment: Regular training clothes and indoor shoes/socks work well for the activity with us
Sundsvall's Athletic Club has an open house during the afternoon at 13.00-17.00, so you are welcome to visit us even without pre-registration.

Tennis at Baldershallen
Tennis is suitable for both beginners and experienced players, regardless of age. It's a fast-paced sport that trains fitness, strength, speed and agility, while challenging you to make quick decisions on the track. A fun and versatile activity that engages both body and brain.

Welcome to an inspiring and educational workshop on mental balance. In a world where stress and demands often take over, this workshop offers concrete tools and techniques to help you find peace and harmony in your everyday life. Through hands-on exercises and reflections, you'll have the chance to discover how you can restore your inner balance, increase your awareness, and deal with challenges in a more constructive way. Together, we explore ways to create sustainable mental health and find strength in the present.

Zumba
Zumba Gold on campus
Welcome to a dance class with wonderful energy and joy, where the movements are adapted to be a little kinder but still provide both fitness, strength, flexibility and balance. Perfect for those who want to train at a slower pace, who are curious about Zumba or just want to move their body to music and have fun!
The session has choreographies that strengthen both balance and coordination, and while you train your core muscles and get your heart rate going, you also replenish joy and new endorphins. With a smile on your face and a few drops of sweat richer, you leave the session both more alert and happier. The instructor is Ann Bådenmalm.
